Assault on Essential Service Workers in Churachandpur
Churachandpur, October 20: Employees of the Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL) have expressed their strong disapproval of a violent incident targeting essential service personnel at the 33/11 kV Tuila Sub-Station. They described the attack as a “brutal assault and bloodshed” against those responsible for maintaining crucial public infrastructure.
In a statement released on Sunday, members from MSPCL’s SSSD-IX and SSD-III units characterized the event as a direct attack on public service workers, with motives that remain unclear.
They condemned the violence as “unacceptable and contrary to the fundamental rights and safety of workers,” demanding a prompt and transparent investigation to ensure justice for the victims.
The employees called on the Tuila Area Chief Association (TACA) and other relevant parties to address the issue according to customary laws by the deadline of October 20.
They cautioned that if this was not achieved, they would be forced to escalate the matter through the law-and-order framework at the administrative level.
Emphasizing the necessity for a secure working environment, MSPCL staff requested written guarantees that such harassment would not happen again, highlighting the importance of peaceful relations. between public service workers and the local community.
The statement has been shared with the Deputy General Manager, SSD-III, TACA, and other stakeholders.
The attack took place on Saturday around 5:30 PM, when seven MSPCL employees, including the Officer-in-Charge, were reportedly assaulted by unidentified assailants.
What started as a calm evening at the Tuila Sub-Station quickly escalated into a terrifying ordeal, leaving the employees injured and traumatized.
This incident has ignited widespread anger among power department workers throughout the state, who are now calling for increased security measures at the sub-station and demanding strict action against the attackers to protect the rights and safety of essential service personnel.
