Incident Reported by Student
A student from South Asian University in Delhi has reported that she was sexually assaulted by four individuals on a secluded part of the campus, according to a first information report filed on Tuesday.
The incident allegedly occurred on Sunday.
In her complaint, the student mentioned receiving threatening messages via email and on platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram, warning her that a morphed nude photograph would be shared if she did not meet the accused near Gate 3 of the campus.
Feeling compelled, she went to a dimly lit area around 8 PM, where she claimed a security guard contacted others, leading to the arrival of three additional men.
The student recounted, ‘One grabbed my T-shirt and attempted to pull it up.’ She further stated, ‘Someone struck my thigh. They tried to drag me into an empty room, and one of them covered my eyes.’
She reported that one of the assailants hit her face, and they fled upon hearing the noise of a food cart.
The police received a call from fellow students the next day around 3 PM, as reported by local news outlets.
One of the individuals named in the FIR is reportedly a non-teaching staff member, according to police sources.
In her police statement, the student alleged that hostel staff discouraged her from contacting the authorities or informing her family. She claimed that a guard physically obstructed her phone while she attempted to video call her parents.
‘The warden advised me to change my clothes and take a bath, assuring me that everything would be fine,’ she alleged in her FIR. ‘They said they would contact the PRO and manage the situation internally.’
The student’s uncle, who acts as her guardian, learned about the incident only after being informed by her classmates.
A message purportedly from the hostel warden to him stated, ‘I would like to inform you that your daughter has experienced a panic attack and is attempting to harm herself. The campus doctor has recommended that she be taken to the hospital. We have already notified her local guardian.
On Tuesday, the university released a statement denouncing the ‘alleged act of sexual violence’ and expressed its support for the complainant.
‘We stand with our students and assure them of our complete support,’ the university emphasised. ‘SAU maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual harassment and all forms of violence against women. We strongly condemn this act and express our solidarity!’

The protesting students are demanding the suspension of the hostel warden and the establishment of an inquiry committee that includes student representation.
